Obituary of Ruth Helena Roy

The death of Ruth Helena (Hewitt) Roy, Quispamsis NB, wife of Norman Roy, occurred on May 17, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Williams) Hewitt. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in her family and home. She enjoyed time with her family and friends, boating, camping, cooking, playing cards and had a passion for gardening. She was a member of the KV Rollers Bowling League for many years. Each year Ruth and her sisters celebrated “Sisters Day,” often traveling together to various locations throughout N.B. and N.S. Those special days will be fondly remembered by her sisters. Throughout her life Ruth enjoyed a diversity of jobs including hairdressing, working at the old Match Factory, O’Keefe’s Grocery in the City Market, Brooke Bond and Hopper Electrical. Ruth is survived by her husband, Norman, two sons, Laurie (Wendy McDonough), Quispamsis, Michael (Helen), Gorham, ME; one daughter, Deborah (Stephane Chabot), Quispamsis; four sisters, Dorothy Ratcliffe, Saint John, Barbara Dupere (Francis Rooney), Rothesay, Ann Alderman, Fredericton; Elizabeth Dallon (Brian Neal), Fall River, NS, two brothers, Stanley (Butch) Hewitt (Lois), Saint John; Bradley Hewitt, Saint John, four grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers & sisters in-law. She was predeceased by her parents, brother George Hewitt, and sister Patricia Hayes. Resting at Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
