Obituary of Ronald Maurice Stevens
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron, a devoted husband and loving father, on September 8, 2007 at age 73. His death occurred peacefully at the Saint John Regional Palliative Care Unit, after a lengthy and courageous battle with colon cancer. Ron was born August 2nd, 1934 in the South End of Saint John, NB, to the late Harold and Mae (nee Trenholm), and has resided the past 38 years in Quispamsis, NB. Ron is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Iris (Pare) his children, Richard Stevens (Connie), Kym MacDonald (Bill), Joanne Janes (Bobby), all from the Saint John area and Stephanie Stevens (Tom Highet) of Calgary, Alberta. As well as his step-children, Rose Murphy (Dan), Halifax, NS, Patty Stephen (Rick) Quispamsis, Larry Joudry (Brenda) Salmon River. He is also survived by his grandchildren- Shannon and Greg Savoy, Andrew and Alicia Stevens, and Alexandra Janes, several step-grandchildren and very special nieces and nephew. Besides his parents, Ron was predeceased by his first wife Joan (nee Sellon) (2005), daughter Debbie (1997) and brother Doug. He had a great love of the outdoors, enjoyed his camp at Bull Moose Hill, hunting, boating, fishing, ATV’ing, woodworking and puttering in “garage” out back. Ron had many varied interests, and was a strong influence in the lives of those he touched. He thoroughly enjoyed the many facets of his life - having served for 19 yrs as a 1st Class Petty Officer and medic in the Royal Canadian Navy, travelled throughout the world and retired from Saint John Canaport in 1995 as a shift supervisor. Ron will be remebered for his active participation in community causes and as a board member of Ken –Val Co-op when it first opened. Resting at Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, with visitation on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Vigil Prayers will be held on Tuesday at 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mark's Catholic Church, 171 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis on Wednesday September 12, 2007 at 10 AM. A reception will follow at the church. Ron will be cremated following the Mass. The family would appreciate donations to Canadian Cancer Society, Palliative Care Unit, SJRH or a charity of the donor’s choice. www.kennebecasisfh.com
