Obituary of WILLIAM JOSEPH THERIAULT

THERIAULT, WILLIAM (BILL) JOSEPH – After every effort to “fight the fight and beat the odds”, Bill Theriault of Rothesay, N.B. , loving & devoted husband of Bette (Myles), was forced to give up his incredible battle on July 19, 2007 at the Toronto General Hospital. Born in Charlottetown, PEI on January 30, 1957, he was the much loved son of Rita Anne (Chiasson) Theriault and the late Dr. John C. Theriault. Bill was an honours graduate of Rothesay Regional High School and obtained degrees of Science and Commerce from Dalhousie University. He spent 28 wonderfully rewarding years with the Irving Group of Companies, mainly with Saint John Shipbuilding Ltd. and Irving Oil Ltd. Bill was an amazingly humble man who never truly realized the impact he made on others in his own quiet way. He will be remembered for his gift of spontaneity, his ability to listen to and assist others with a variety of issues, his passions in all aspects of life and his tremendous, unconditional care for all those he met. Bill was very protective of everyone he loved and always absorbed the burden of the pain. He was always known for his ability to look at the brighter side of any situation, which deeply impacted those around him and had a unique ability to leave a profound effect on every person who has benefited from knowing him. Active as both an enthusiastic participant and spectator in sports, Bill derived immense pleasure from his Yamaha V-Star 1100, his hockey, skiing, and golf. As he and Bette traveled to many destinations, Bill spent time doing what he loved best; savoring fine food, wine and vistas while relaxing on a comfortable chaise in a sunny location. The pilgrimage to see his beloved Montreal Canadiens with family and friends was a much anticipated, annual highlight for Bill and those fortunate enough to be with him. Giving of his time and knowledge was a large factor in Bill’s life. Many of his community involvements included: coaching hockey and baseball, chairing the initial SPAC at Quispamsis Elementary School, sitting as a director of the Saint John Boys and Girls Club and twice chairing MindCare’s Skate to Care. Bill was an amazingly dedicated husband, father, son, brother, and uncle and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. He is survived by his “loving, glorious wife” Bette, daughter Christianne Marie and son John Charles, both at home: his mother Rita of Halifax, N.S.; 4 brothers: John of Big Bras D'Or, George (Dina) of Quispamsis, Jim (Carol) of St. John's, NL, C.P. (Ruth) of Rothesay; 3 sisters: Christine (Steve) Zinder of Ithaca, NY, Eva Landry (Marty Martin) of Pembroke, ON, and Michelle (Michael) Kingston of Darlings Island, his in-law family particularly his father in law Gordon Myles and mother in law Barbara Myles; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his loving father, Dr. John C. Theriault and his older brother Dr. Dennis Theriault. Please join us as we “Celebrate Life” with Bill at Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, Quispamsis, NB, with visitation Sunday 11:30-2pm and 7-9pm and Monday 11:30-2pm and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Tuesday July 24, 2007 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, NB. A reception will follow at the church where we ask that you take advantage of the opportunity to share aloud your fondest memories of Bill as he followed his motto's “Celebrate Life”, “Live Loud, Ride Hard” ,”Live to love, love to live” and “Impossible Is Nothing”. Donations to National Cancer Institute of Canada through the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
