Obituary of Helen Emma McAllister

The death of Helen (Edwards) McAllister of Rothesay, NB, wife of the late Frank McAllister, occurred on Monday, August 7th, 2006, at her residence. Born in St. Stephen, NB, she was the daughter of the late A. Brewer and Beatrice (Gardner) Edwards. Helen attended Mount Allison University where she received a Bachelor of Science, going on to become a Hospital Dietitian. She was a life member of St. David’s United Church UCW, was formerly a Rotary-Ann and volunteered at her church. Helen loved classical music and read literature and British history avidly. For over forty years, she traced the genealogies of her family and that of her husband, and read everything she could about the history of St. Stephen-Milltown. She kept informed on politics and current affairs, was a keen backyard birder and botanist, and enjoyed tending her garden. She is survived by one daughter, Ann McAllister of Rothesay, NB; one son, David McAllister (Margaret MacMillan) of Boonton Township, New Jersey, USA; one brother, Dr. John A. Edwards (Mary Jane) of Los Altos, California; one sister-in-law, Ann McAllister of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; one cousin, Gordon McAllister of McAdam, NB: two grandchildren, Alicia and Kyle McAllister; two nieces, Catherine Hayashida of California and Dr. Helen Wendler of Massachusetts, USA: one nephew, John B. Edwards (Rachel Robbins), also of California; and two great-nephews, Jacob and Matthew Edwards. Resting at Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (849-2119) with visitation on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 11th, 2006 from St. David’s United Church, Rothesay, NB, at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Dr. Ronald Vincent officiating. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Interment will take place in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery, at 1:30 PM. For those who wish, donations may be made to St. David’s United Church, the Extra-Mural Program, Kennebecasis Valley Unit, the Boys & Girls Club of Saint John - Endowment Fund or the ALS Society of New Brunswick.
