To Linda, Sheri-Lynn and Craig.
I just learned today of Russell’s death. My condolences to your family. Russell was the only male teacher at Lakewood School and he said he spent so much time with the women that he really began to think like us. He kept us all laughing in the staff room and we always enjoyed his stories. He was very proud of his family and always talked about Linda and Craig and Sheri- Lynn. I was very sad to hear this news . My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Linda and family, I first met Russell when I began my teaching career at MNHS. There were times when I wasn't sure whether Russell was being a jokester or was really serious. I remember, fondly, our several trips with the Camera Club. Stephen and I send our sincere condolences to all the family during this difficult time.

Linda and family, I am sorry to hear of Russell's passing. I had the opportunity to share many Scout campfires with Russell as the Campfire Chief. Russell always had a way of making the campfires exciting and full of life - his wonderful stories were always a real treat. His spirit will always be at our campfires.

I taught with Russell at MNHS, we were classroom neighbours, what fun we had! He was always willing to help a new teacher and ready with ideas and suggestions to enliven the day. Sometimes it was a challenge to know if he was joking!! I will always remember him sharing tales of his kids and their exploits. It was a pleasure to work with and know Russell. I know how very devoted he was to his family. Please accept my sincere condolences at this difficult time.

Mrs. Haynes & Family:
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I had the pleasure of being in Mr. Haynes' grade 5 class at Lakewood Elementary School. He was my favourite teacher ever, and I remember him saying things like "Okay, you bunch of cretins. Let's get outside for gym class now". His sense of humour and his ability to speak to us as actual human beings, rather than as just a bunch of kids, made for the perfect combination. He was one of my inspirations for becoming a teacher myself. I ran into him while substituting at Lakewood Elementary, and not only did he remember me, but he asked "Why the heck would you ever decide to become a teacher ???". He then proceeded to tell me a funny story about how he just kind of fell into teaching after university. I always assumed it was his lifelong dream ! Whether he fell into the profession or planned on it, he was made to be a teacher, and many, many young people are fortunate to have crossed paths with this wonderful man. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.

My deepest condolences to your family in this trying time. Though I didn’t know Mr.Haynes in his personal life, he played a large part in the formative years of mine; It was in Lakewood Elementary where I first met him as one of his students. Where he was spoken of and beloved by other students as a teacher who would make classes fun and interesting, but not only that, he would treat you like friend and equal. It was these small things that made coming to school very special, and I can honestly say 23+ years after meeting him, he was one of the few teachers that I really remember, and fewer still that I recall fondly. Mr. Haynes It has been an honour, goodbye my friend.

My sincere condolences to you all at this difficult time. You do not know me but I knew Russell, my mother was a fellow resident on the same wing at St John and St Stephen Home. Russell always had a smile, a touch of the hand and kind words for my mother. I could have received no greater gift than the kindness he showed her. I too had my share of chats and smiles too and the pleasure of hearing him speak at function and a church service at the home. A lively photo you chose to show, thank you for sharing Russell.
