Obituary of Jannetje Miller
Mrs. Jannie Miller, 96, of Wesley Drive, Quispamsis, died suddenly on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Born in Loosduinen, South Holland, she was a daughter to Hendrik van der Eijk and Hendrika Lena van der Noll. Growing up during the hardships of World War II, she eventually emigrated to Canada – far from what she knew – to be with the person who helped liberate her village. After marrying Harry Miller, she divided her time between her role as mother and answering the telephone at her husband’s police office, as well as for Dr. Barry King and the local fire station.
Her interests were many, including jigsaw puzzles; bowling; gardening; watching documentaries, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. During her later years, she became an avid player of Rummikub and word searches. She never shied away from ruminating on the past, often regaling others with stories of her village in the Netherlands and about her years in New Brunswick. On quiet days, she liked nothing more than to sit with a glass of wine or cup of coffee in hand while watching the birds. Despite any difficulties that crossed her path, she lived her life stubbornly and full of appreciation for those that helped keep her comfortable.
She was predeceased by her sister Arendje; brothers Jacobus and Pieter Cornelis; husband Harry; infant children Judith and George, and son-in-law James Hutton. She is survived by daughters Linda Hutton, Elizabeth Sutherland (Paul), and Patricia Normandeau (Michael); grandchildren Peter, Andrew, David, Tiffany, Ryann, Catherine, and Gregory; great grandchildren Carter, Michael, Kian, Kai and Évelyne.
At the family’s request, no visitation will be held. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM from Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119). Interment to take place at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
