Obituary of Melville Patrick Shonaman
It is with great sorrow, the family of Melville “Mel” Patrick Shonaman, husband of the late Eileen (Wood) Shonaman, announce his passing on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Kings Way Care Centre.
Born on October 9, 1959, in Saint John, he was a son of the late Ronald and Laureen Shonaman. Mel was employed at Sobey’s for many years before retiring. He was an avid Nascar fan who could be found glued to the TV on race day cheering on his boys, 3 Dale Earnhardt and #29 Kevin Harvick. Mel loved spending time with family and friends, enjoying many family BBQ’s in the summer, watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, listening to old rock music and playing cards with friends and family. He had a zest for life and loved to share his passions with those around him, teaching many to play Cribbage, and Gin Rummy and introducing the kids to his favorite bands.
Mel is survived by his brothers; Ronnie Shonaman, Walter Shonaman, and sister; Marie Shonaman, daughter Lorraine (Wes Toby) Gautreau, grandchildren: Katie (Catlin), Ayron (Jillian), Karrie (James), great-grandchildren: Jillian, Marc, and Julie, as well as several nieces, nephews, special friends; Mashayla, Jacob, Kaylah and Oakley, and Paul along with other extended family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his loving wife Eileen, Mel is predeceased by his dog Gracie, sister Marilyn and great grandson James Taylor.
