Obituary of Luke Robert Bustin

It is with deep and profound sorrow that we share the passing of Luke Robert Bustin, beloved husband to Sarah Flemming, a deeply loving father and a true friend. He left this world peacefully at home on April 14th, 2025, surrounded by family—held in love, strengthened by faith, and embraced by the presence of God. After a hard-fought, year-long battle with cancer, Luke is now at peace with his Lord and Savior.

Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on April 13, 1983, to Bob and Debbie Bustin (née Berry), Luke was raised in a loving and deeply Christian home in Rothesay, New Brunswick. From an early age, Luke stood out for his loyalty, calm presence and incredible work ethic. Luke was known for his quick wit, quiet strength, and a strong fashion sense—the kind of person who showed up without hesitation and loved with his whole heart.

Luke was a master of his craft—a proud Red Seal carpenter whose talent was evident in every project he touched. He had an eye for detail, hands that could bring vision to life, and a deep respect for quality and precision. He never boasted about his abilities, but those who knew him—and the many homes that now carry his mark—understand just how gifted he truly was. Together, with his best friend Rob Barnett they created something more than a business—Oakbarrel Carpentry built a legacy rooted in friendship, trust, and fine craftsmanship.

Sarah and Luke built a beautiful life together, grounded in the simple joys of everyday moments together. Their enduring partnership was more than just a shared life—it was a source of constant inspiration. They faced challenges hand in hand and celebrated small victories that accumulated to a lifetime of cherished memories.

Luke’s greatest gift and joy were his boys, who brought light and meaning to his every day. He was a hands-on, deeply loving father—always ready with a goofy joke, a warm hug, or a word of encouragement. In their laughter, their courage, and their kind hearts, his spirit lives on.

During his battle with cancer, Luke’s faith deepened in powerful ways. He drew strength, peace and hope from his relationship with God. Through it all, his wife Sarah never left his side. She was his constant—caring for him daily, advocating for him, encouraging him, and surrounding him with unwavering love. She was his rock—an incredible source of strength and grace. Her devotion was fierce, tender, and tireless, and she walked every step of that difficult journey with courage and faith. He was also lovingly cared for by his sister Nicole and sister-in-law Candace, whose quiet acts of service, presence and compassionate nursing care brought peace and comfort in his final days. Together, they created a sacred circle of love around Luke as he transitioned to his eternal home.

Luke is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Flemming, his beloved sons, Gunnar (17) and Charlie (7), his parents, Bob and Debbie Bustin, his siblings, Daniel Bustin (Sacha), Shelley Verboom (Anthony), Nicole Bustin (Candace) and Robert Bustin. In-laws, Ted and Nancy Flemming; and his best friend and business partner, Rob Barnett (Jaisy). He will also be missed dearly by his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless dear friends.
Luke was predeceased by his maternal and fraternal grandparents.

Luke’s family wishes to convey their heartfelt thanks to the oncology team at Saint John Regional Hospital—especially Dr. Amy Groom. Her exceptional empathy, expertise, and steadfast dedication profoundly eased Luke’s journey, and her care touched their hearts in ways they will never forget. They also wish to express heartfelt thanks to the many Extra-Mural nurses who supported family members in caring for Luke, making it possible for him to remain at home, surrounded by love.

A Visitation will be held at True Life Church, 30 Vincent Road, Quispamsis, on Wednesday, April 16th, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Luke’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Service at True Life Church, 30 Vincent Road, Quispamsis, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM. For those unable to attend, Luke's Funeral Service will be lifestreamed on True Life's YouTube Channel (True Life Church) at 11:00 AM.
