My sincere condolences to the McKim Family. Warren and my late father were lifelong employees of Furness Withy (later on as Furncan Marine). I can recall my father telling me of how he helped Warren with some ecclesial matters when Kathy was being baptised as well as Warren's abilities as a pilot and a musician as well as Warren's unique tattoo markings on his fingers.
During their retirement, Warren and my father would have frequent long distance telephone conversations to keep in touch with each other - from Halifax to Rothesay - and to keep each other abreast of the local shipping news and other topics.
On behalf of the McGillivray Family, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

To the McKim family;
I was deeply saddened to hear of Warren's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Warren back in the 60's as I worked for Furness Withy (Montreal staff) and was sent to Saint John during the Winter months 1060-65. I can truly say that Warren was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. My sincere condolences to the family.

I'm deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Warren. I first met him at the early age of 12 through his late sister Grace, where we both connected immediately with our love for magic.
He showed and taught me a few tricks and led me to joining the magic circle of Saint John. When it was his time to move to the nursing home he gifted me with his most treasured magic tricks, which I still and will always hold dearly and share with the world. Thank you again to his daughter Kathleen for getting it to me.
Warren was a great man and the best magic trick that he had ever done was sharing his kindness to a young boy. I will miss our phone calls with our chats all about life. My condolences go to the entire family.

To the family of Mr. McKim,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. McKim was a true gentleman. In all that, that word means. I met Mr. McKim when I worked at Furncan Marine, dock office along with my father Patrick Beckingham. Mr. McKim always met you with a smile and asked how you were. He treated people with dignity, respect and a kindness. When my father passed, Mr. McKim came to the funeral parlor and he himself lost his brother that day. I had the greatest respect and admiration for him. He was a lovely, decent man. I know that you will miss him terribly. My thoughts are with you. Sincerely, Kathy Beckingham

To the McKim family. I graduated from Rothesay High School in 1968. My first out of school job was at Furness Withy Steamship Company, second floor Royal Bank Building. It was here where I met a man that had a profound influence on me, Warren McKim. We became good friends. Spare time was spent talking about writing, reading books. He read The Writer magazine and The Writer's Digest and I read The Writer magazine and The Writer's Digest. He asked, why did you not go to college and I told him my marks were to low and he kindly said in a few years you will be able to get into college as a mature student. I did not think anything of it again. Except, as a 24 year old I went to college studied hard surrounded myself with books graduated went into the ministry and moved back home to New Brunswick. What a wonderful gentleman. What a privilege to know him. Off to college, off to pastoring. Sadly as much as I love Saint John we never got home again. I am saddened we never connected again. As I type this on my desk is a copy the Scriptures and on the corner of my desk is a copy of The Writer's Digest. To the McKim family accept my condolences. Mr. McKim (In those days I could not bring my self to call Mr. McKim Warren. Mr. McKim was a gentleman and a prince of a man. May you know the Lord's comfort in this time of loss. God bless you. Warren would often walk by our home which was just around the corner from his home. We had some great conversations on those warm sunny days in the summer time. He was very disciplined in his daily routine and gave me the impression that he was contemplating some thoughts/ideas as he walked by. Warren was very kind and a true gentleman. Condolences to Warren’s family. Leo & Summer Coyle

I was so saddened to have heard of Warren's passing last week. So many memories of meeting him at Furness-Withy, to his 1992 letter telling me of his passoin for Amelia Earhart's story at Millidgeville airport - so many aviation stories over the years, so many many conversations about his love of music, the shipping industry but we always came back to aviation. I will miss him calling me Hal.
This extract from High Flight is how I am now thinking of Warren:
"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; . . .
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds,"
Our next Turnbull (NB) Chapter meeting will be dedicated to Warren.

So very sad to hear of Mr. McKim’s passing. He had a long and interesting life. Reflecting on his shipping days, I was the office assistant at Furncan Marine and I always remember him as a calm, steady man, and he would be very thoughtful when making decisions in the midst of chaos. It sure was an interesting career, and he had a wealth of knowledge and experience. I remember him telling me about his very early days as a junior ‘runner’ for the company which was originally Furness Withy during the war years. He would have to run to each of the merchant vessels in port and deliver their sailing orders, on the quiet as no radios could be used. The vessels would leave in tandem and could only go as fast as the slowest ship.
He was very respected in the shipping community and well liked by so many. He and his cohort, Gerry McGillivray were a great pair. Between them they had over a hundred years in the shipping business. That’s a lot of smarts. It was a great experience working for those two shipping icons. They hired me on the spot when I went in to do my ‘typing test’ for them. I typed their document and then they sent it to whomever in the mail. I guess I did it right. He was always helpful and encouraging.
After he retired from shipping, we would trade little notes in the mail under our code names – Poncho and Lefty. He wanted to keep an ear in the shipping news. I can’t remember now which of us was which. He was a great writer and communicator.
I know he missed his wife dearly when she passed, and so too his home when he had to leave his home and model railroad to move into the Shannex.
To his family – I am very sorry for your loss. I am very grateful to have had the honour of working with him and being his friend. Fare thee well Mr. McKim!

Elizabeth and I were deeply saddened to learn of Warren’s passing and extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to his family and friends for their loss. Warren was a true gentleman and a gentle man. He was a great boss when I worked with Furncan Marine Ltd. (1973-1987). And our friendship grew when he joined the Magic Circle of Saint John. Our monthly gatherings allowed us to keep in touch and, at the same time, enjoy our mutual interests. Such fond memories of a lovely man. Our love, thoughts, and prayers are with his family, as they reflect on his life and many contributions.
Most sincerely.
