Obituary of Patricia Margaret McCarthy
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia McCarthy of Quispamsis, NB and previously Moncton, NB. Patricia passed peacefully on November 21, 2016 surrounded by loved ones.
Patricia was born in Newcastle, NB on September 10, 1927 to the late William and Emma (Burke) McCallum. She was the wife of the late Linus McCarthy who predeceased her in January 1980.
Patricia and Linus were married in November of 1953 in Newcastle, NB and from there settled in Amherst, NS. Linus’ work took them across the country and the world to various locations including their final stop in Quito, Equator. They returned to Newcastle in 1978.
Patricia lived a beautiful life thanks in part to her loving immediate and extended family. She took great pleasure in the simple things in life like sitting out in the sun or writing a letter to a dear friend. Her door was always open to friends and family who she would spend hours talking to and of course enjoying a cup of tea and a cookie with them. She loved combing through old pictures and talking about all the amazing things she had done and seen and the wonderful people she had met on her travels.
Patricia will be greatly missed by her children Norah (Ron) Soobratee of Quispamsis, Thom, Terry both of Moncton, Sean (Kerry-Lynn) of Montreal, grandchildren Caitlin (Ivan) and Erin Soobratee, James, Kiera and Lauren McCarthy as well as her sister in law Joan McCallum of Penticton BC, brothers in law Guy (Pierrette) McCarthy of Alberta, Tim (Giselle) McCarthy of Moncton, sister in law Frances Surette of Moncton and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Patricia was predeceased by her daughter Colleen (Fred) Stewart, her infant son Kevin and her siblings Katherine, Helen, Marie Irving, Percy, Arthur and twins Donald and Doris. Patricia was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Her family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff and volunteers of Shannex, Embassy Hall Quispamsis as well as a special thanks to friends Alcida Landry, Kathy Guimond, Sherry Roy and Catherine McGinnis for all their love and support.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday November 25, 2016 at 11:00 am from Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 31 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay. Interment to take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newcastle at a later date. Remembrances may be made to Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
