Obituary of John Joseph Paciga

The family of John Paciga of Rothesay, NB sadly announces his death on November 4, 2016 after a long illness. Born on March 4, 1947 in Red Lake, Ontario, he studied physics at the Universities of Guelph and British Columbia before completing a Ph.D. at the University of Toronto's Institute for Environmental Studies. He met Saint John native Jane Thomson in Ontario and they married in 1975. They moved to Fredericton in 1976 and then to Rothesay in 1980. During 30 years with NB Power's nuclear program he held various positions, including management roles in radiation and nuclear safety. Following his retirement he participated in a number of international projects with the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna. He is survived by his wife Jane (Thomson) in Rothesay, son Jeffrey and his wife Erika Schurr in Toronto, son Gregory and his fiancé Gregory Flynn in Toronto, and daughter Allison in Fredericton. He was predeceased by his eldest son Mark (2009) and parents John Albert Paciga and Mavis (Browman) Paciga. His siblings are Jerry Paciga (Courtice, ON), Penny Olson (Port Coquitlam, BC), and Carol Melnichek (Martinez, CA). John had many interests and enjoyed dabbling in something new. His early favourite was printing black and white photographs from film. He liked drawing and painting portraits, writing fiction, and RVing throughout Atlantic Canada. His favourite places were Newfoundland, the Magdalen Islands, PEI, and Kouchibouguac Park. He also enjoyed tai chi and the KV Library Book Club. Visitation will be at the Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (849-2119) with visiting on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8PM.
