It’s been years, yet the memories linger. During my brief time at Hillcrest, Karl made an impression with his enthusiasm for life. I only today saw that he was called home to enjoy the presence of his Lord. My deepest sympathy Jane. His love for you from the beginning was so evident. May the Lord grant you abiding strength and contentment as your family shares his absence

To Jane and all the Conrad family; Karl was a very special friend to our family. We remember Karl when he joined Hillcrest as a teenager and prominent "character". We remember Karl as a pastor, mentor and advisor to each of our children during their teen years at Hillcrest. We know he holds a special place in their hearts, and their partners too. Karl was an important influence for Christ in each life he touched, and that legacy carries on into eternity. Karl's "touch" was never incidental nor could be ignored.
He was a Man's Man, and a friend of immense value. Our world is a poorer place now that Karl has left our presence, but it is a much richer place because he came and lived with us. Thank you Lord for giving us Karl Conrad.

Dear Jane and family: profound sympathies to you! I have know Karl for a long time. He is only one year older than me and so I remember him from high school. Whenever I think of Karl I always think of his mischievous smile. From reading his obituary I see it was well earned :-)
My parents have helped Karl along the way a number of times.., However, I take this opportunity to also recognize how he has given back. I think of what a great friend he has been to my brother Al...and when he lived with my Gram Ida Martin, a widow, so that she would not be so scared in the house by herself. I also think of the lives he has saved as a firefighter, As a labour historian, I know how firefighters have always put their lives on the line....
Sincerely
Bonnie Huskins

Sincere condolences to Jane, Colton (Meredith, Zander), Soren (Alex) and Lacey. Our hearts grieve with yours,
We met KarI & Jane in 1988 after we started attending Hillcrest Baptist Church. They were just dating at the time and Karl was quick to introduce themselves to us. We were a young married couple with no children, so Karl asked us if we might be interested in helping to lead Jr. Youth. Never had we done this, but we said sure. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into, but we had so many wonderful memories, playing games, eating food (some things we were unsure of!), sports, challenges, overnights, mission trips (me pregnant), oh the fun! But we also had wonderful memories as young married couples, getting together and bonding. We were best friends. Over the years, and us moving across the country caused us to miss out on our children's growing up years, but we stayed in touch with letters/pictures. Upon our return to NB, we tried to catch up every now and again but it seemed that work schedules conflicted and then there kids activities, health issues, etc.... we reconnected again a few times, but wish it had been more. Karl was a very "one of a kind ". Always giving compliments, asking concerning/caring questions, thoughtful, always smiling, quick wit and very selfless. He was dedicated beyond words. I'll never forget him saying that he prayed to get into the SJFD and that he made a pact with God that if he got in, he would serve God all the days of his life and that he did. He gave 110%. I will always hear his voice, "Jane is a great cook", Jane can make anything.... Jane was his angel on earth. He was such a proud dad and grandfather. His legacy will live on because he made a great one. Hugs

Please accept our heartfelt condolences. He was a very larger then life person to lose. Not only was Carl a colleague on the fire department but we also saw him many times over the years as a ref for our daughters' volleyball games and also as a proud dad watching Lacey play volleyball and a proud husband watching Jane coach. It is with heavy hearts that we send our deepest condolences to Jane, Colton, Soren & Lacey. Karl was an excellent husband, father, firefighter & friend. His life & times on earth were felt by many and will be fondly remembered. He was such a fun loving and hardworking seemingly unstoppable & inspirational guy who seemed to have boundless energy and enthusiasm no matter what. I last talked to him over the past winter in a local parking lot during a snowstorm. While I sat comfortably in my warm vehicle, ice pellets bounced off his face like it was nothing. He never mentioned his illness to me. That was Karl.
Rest easy Karl.

We were so blessed to have had Karl, Jane and Colton up here in Ft. Providence on an outreach. Everyone of you showed us a Godly example. We truly saw in Karl the love of Jesus and he preached the Gospel by word and example. He was a giant of man who walked amongst us and was a blessing to all he encountered. Lives were changed for time and eternity and we thank God for the time he was here with us.

Jane, Colton (Meredith), Soren (Alex), Lacey:
This is a sad day - as we have to say a final goodbye to Karl - a guy we call dear friend. It's a final goodbye from this earth...but thanks be to God...we have HOPE that we will meet again - because of Jesus Christ and the Hope we have of heaven through HIM!!
We have many memories of great times spent together, bonfires, games, meals, H&H hockey, Christmas week family get togethers, concerts, hang-outs...there are just so many and each memory has a story!!
The smile, warmth, genuine caring for us and our family were the most endearing part of Karl! He was funny, smart, an athlete, organized and "real" - and he was an encourager! We had great conversation and he would always give an honest opinion or discussion - he didn't shy away from the hard talks!
He genuinely cared for people, you saw this in his actions and his profession!
"His people" his family meant the world to him...you heard this in his stories and conversation and you could see it on his face often!!
"His Saviour" gave him assurance of forgiveness and life eternal...you heard this in his conversation and prayers - he would share this as much as possible, to those who would ask or cared to listen.
We will miss our times Karl - we thank you for the ways you touched our lives and for your friendship. We will miss that smile, that "how are you doing"... we will miss you!
We love your family and will keep them close to our hearts and hugs and in our prayers!
Susan & Gary

I Remember One Day Karl And I Were Playing Soft Ball For The Baptist Church In K.V. I was Playing Right Field And Karl Was Playing Centre Field. It Was Bottom Of The Inning With Two Out With A Man On Second And Third Base, Karl Turned To Me And Said Back Up As Far As You Can This Guy Is A Good Hitter. So We Backed Up and The Guy Hit That Ball So Hard And High I Went NO, NO, NO, The Ball Was Hit So Hard And High That It Was Going Over Karl's Head. What Happened Next Was Like It Was In Slow Motion, Karl Ran Back Jumped in the Air, Reaching Back Past The Home Run Fence and Caught The Ball, The Ball Was Hit So Hard Karl Glove Force Him Back Hitting The Fence. I Ran Over And Asked Him If He Was Okay, He Said Sure Am, So I Said Karl That Ball Was Gone And that Was An Amazing Catch, Karl Turned To Me And Said Perry It Was Just A Catch, That Day Karl Showed Me How To Be Humble Person.

Dear Jane, Colton, Soren, and Lacey. I knew Karl through Gordy and Dici, our neighbours, but got to know him much better at the Gym over the years. He was fun to speak with and joke with, he was always interested in speaking about business and travel but especially his family. He loved you, he loved you especially Jane and what made that work was his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. What I really admired about Karl, was that despite being a falible person, imperfect as we all can be, he loved the forgiveness he had from his Saviour Jesus Christ and it transformed him in the the hero he needed to be at the work emergency, the husband he become, the enduring father that cared for you and never gave up on you. He was a special guy and one of a kind! You never gave up on him either. There is a river in Heaven and its a river of life. I am praying that you will all look forward to a future day where you will be meeting up with your dad/husband by that river. The pain will be gone, the tears, no more, the love -- perfect, the presence endless all because your names were written in the Lamb's book of life through faith in Christ. Isaiah 53:5. That is what is on my heart as I write this. Love... Geoff & Beth Marney

Dear Jane, Colton, Soren, and Lacey,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of Karl's passing. He will be missed by so many but especially you as close family.
I have a memory of your wedding day Jane. Karl came to our house close to noon that day...I think sort of wanting "Mamma's approval". He looked VERY handsome in his white sport's coat and I gave him the 'thumb's up', but as he turned to leave I gasped and said "KARL, you have a big streak of GREASE on the back of your coat"! He asked me if I could get it off but I wouldn't touch it. Frantically, I called a Dry Cleaners in the Valley, which was still open and explained our predicament. Away he went... they got the grease off and he 'made it to the church on time...lookin' good as new' !!
Karl was so organized and had such an ability to connect with people and put them at ease which was his God-given gift.
With our Love and prayers, Innis and Mary McCready

I first met Karl in the early 80s at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Saint John. We were renovating a basement room to become the Young Married Couples' study room, and Karl had been storing some of his home belongings there for some time. Others were worried that he'd be miffed at being asked to "remove his stuff" but I wrote him a letter asking him to do that, explaining the project we were about to undertake. That Sunday after church this young man came up to me, introduced himself to me and stuck out his hand (i the olden days we were allowed to shake hands), and assured me he'd have his stuff gone in a week or so. I liked him then, and we became lifelong friends that day, leading to a man-to-man relationship of accountability, Christian discipleship, and early morning prayer meetings.
Karl's whole family evolved to be lifelong friends likewise, and over the years we have developed fond memories of church service work, missions and youth group activities together. I valued Karl's friendship immensely, and we met from time to time to discuss things we promised to pray about until we met again. We shall meet again my friend, and in the meantime you and the family can know that anything they might ever need from our family we would be gladly do.
Cyndi and I will continue our long-standing habit of praying regularly for this beautiful family - Jane, Soren, Lacey, Colton, Meredith, and Zander; like Karl, our lifelong friends.

Condolences from Barb and Sterling Huskins. We have fond memories of Karl .He was a good friend to our son Allan and his family. We watched him grow physically and spiritually while he used his gifts to further the work at Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was always upbeat and fun and the kids loved him. He lived with us for a time and also with Barb's mum, Ida Martin. During those days he had lots of ideas about what he would like to do - a farrier working with horses, going to Bible school on an athletic scholarship etc. However, a career path opened up as a firefighter and Karl served well in that capacity for many years. He was a unique gentleman with a beautiful family. Our love goes out to Jane and the family and we rejoice that Karl is now with his best friend Jesus in Heaven!
