A Poem for Pat "For the Boy on The Steps" That cute little guy with the "Haunting" grey eyes Sitting on the drug store stesp Grew up to be the nicest of Guys, Now gone to be one of the "McGuire's Reps," To Heaven with those who have gone before... Not with a whimper, or regret But with laughter, and a "Mighty Roar!" They're waiting there with open arms; Our dear Patrick leaves those he must leave behind To go the haven where he'll never be harmed And to strengthen all "The Ties that Bind". I go back in time to that long ago day When that cute little guy used to talk to me She he was, but I worried (as teachers do!) That many a day that boy I did see "Are you Lost? No...Okay? - Yes! He way in grade two "Why here all alone?...Do you know Gerry? " We became friends, and I looked forward to seeing him there... All by himself, day after day. That cute little boy with the "Haunting" grey eyes... And the beautiful "Coal black Hair!" One day I asked, "Is Raymond your brother too?" George, Gerry and Leo; and Doreen I knew from school; - He paused...He thought, he wrinkled his brow. I think so! was his slow reply I had to smile; but keep my cool! Then; - Later much to my surprise I was "Hostess with the mostest one summer in the Soo! Suppose to be my summer off! But baking cookies, cakes and pies For Pat and Gerry who came to work, I did They "Slugged away, day after day Ray didn't let them "shirk!" They were there to work! Who did all the washing, ironing shirts! For eight- Yes that was me!" "Exausted, They thought, It was "too much!" ...A lesson in Reality!" Then "The Wedding of Pay and Betty Lou.., That that summer we drove to NB To be a part of their life, The few lucky enough to see Fifty years through, We now wipe away the tears. It was their time; the ticking of the clock And Now our DEAR PAT, with the prayers you Go Through the sunset;... the flowers, twinkling lights I envision As happily, he takes that last walk Along the path where they're waiting Amid "Cheers and shouts!" Though I'll never forget that cute little guy, Who sat on the steps and smiled at me He's gone to a place,...a place on high Where the grass is green and he's ready to "Tee Off". That cute boy, Pat, I see smiling at me Won a place in my heart long, long ago. "Are you Lost?" I ask; he says; No, I'm Okay, I'm hoping to be a "Golf Pro" some day. That Boy on the steps of McAdam Drug Store, Then, "My Brother-In-Law" was he- Your golf ball on the wings of angels will sore"... "Are you lost?" I ask of those "Haunting grey eyes" "No I'm HOME at last!", is his answer to me "Play though, Pat! Hooray! It'll be a "Great Day!" Always Love, Barb McGuire

I had the great pleasure of playing with Pat on our regular Wednesday money game with myself Frank Doyle and many fill in to complete our foursome, including Mark Miller,John Breen ,Mike Goguen,Mike Bishop,my brother Terry Breen who was with us for the last three years. Pat enjoyed taking our money and documenting it on his spread sheets which he periodically made known to us that he was up that amount for the year. Pat had a charming wit and took great pleasure as did we all in sticking the knife in at the appropriate time. We shared many good times together and he will be greatly missed. I loved Pat much like I love my brothers, and Im certain that the men I mentioned earlier feel the same. He was a fine man, a good good friend and i feel honoured to have had him in my life. My deepest regrets to Betty and family. Gary Breen

As I was leaving the mic.,I wish I had the presence of mind to go your way to say that the service was indeed a "Celebration Of Pat's Life". You were very courageous and an inspiration to us sharing in your grief. Pat's life was "well lived" and you made that so. Please take consolation knowing Energy is never destroyed but appears in renewed forms. Pat's "Spiritual Energy" is just a call away for us.
