Obituary of Nancy Constance Elizabeth Kirk

Nancy Constance Elizabeth (May) Kirk of 15 Shannex Drive in Quispamsis, died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. She was the loving wife of William (Billy) Joseph Kirk for over 50 years.

Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Carroll and Kathleen (LeGoffe) May. Besides her best friend and husband Billy, she is  survived by one brother, David May of Coldstream N.B., two sisters, Jane (Merle) Hoben, and Kathleen (Stanley) Gee both of Saint John. She was predeceased by five brothers, Daniel, Carl, John, Paul and Richard May, and six sisters, Mary Kinney, Patricia Collrin, Ann E. Hunter, Barbara J. Isaac, Margaret and Susan May. She was also predeceased by a special sister-in-law Mary (O’Leary) May. While Nancy did not have children, she was a favourite Aunt of many nieces and nephews, especially Kim Hunter, Peter Bardsley, Tracy Isaac, Patrick Sohy, Thomas Isaac Jr., Shelly (Hunter) Rupp, Heather (Hunter) Murphy, Pam Hunter and John Isaac.

Nancy was a graduate of St. Vincent’s Girl’s High School and worked for much of her career in the accounting departments of many Saint John companies, including Kimberley Clark and Kennebecasis Valley Drug Store, from where she retired.

She was full of life and was always smiling. She took an active interest in the lives of her nieces and nephews.

Nancy had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to laugh. She, along with her “Maysie” sisters were often caught ‘snicking’ together in the most inappropriate of situations. In earlier years, she and her husband Billy loved to travel and spent many a vacation in the sunny south of Florida, and Ireland. Her  religious pilgrimage to Medjugorje was one of the highlights of her life.

She was a devout Catholic and was an active member in her parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rothesay. Nancy was a devoted member of the Legion of Mary. She served with distinction as an officer in her parish praesidium and the Legion's Diocesan Curia.  She also was a member of the Spiritual Care Department at the Saint John Regional Hospital and for many years during her retirement Nancy brought Holy Communion to patients at the Regional on a weekly basis.  Until her recent illness she also made home visits to fellow parishioners bringing them the Blessed Sacrament when they were ill.

Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road in Quispamsis, with visiting on Friday, June 14, 2019 from 3 – 7 PM.
